Venus Elipsed

“Be to her virtues very kind
Be to her faults a little blind.”

Beauty, tolerance and understanding, all these qualities in one creation are only in woman: the girl, the wife, the mother and the daughter. However, the irony in our country is that a male child is always preferred. This wrong attitude has permeated not only the illiterate families but also the educated ones. A female child is mostly welcome in the family. There are reports that baby girls are abandoned or killed at childbirth.

Why is the anomaly? The main reason is that the parents are fearful about the dowry, which they have to bear when the girl child grows up. Next aspect is that extra safety and security measures are to be proved for a girl by her parents. Thirdly a boy, when becomes adult, is considered to be a bred-winner for the family.

In our society, not with standing all our progress in many fields, we still suffer from such prejudices. As per our cultural heritage synergically, synthesize beauty, tolerance, patience and understanding in a woman better than us in 21st century with all our quantum leap. A reference to Manu, the law-giver would enlighten us that any discrimination between male and female was unjust. In fact our constitution also embodies the principle of non-discrimination.

Many times we have become oblivious of the hands, the wounds. Behind every successful man there is a woman.

“Son is a son till he gets a wife.
