One Day Workshop On Value Education At RKGIT

• One day Value Education Workshop for Heads of Institutions under UPTU.

Today, professional education has become primarily skill-biased and the value aspect is taken for granted. This has driven the students to work for profit-centric objectives leading to exploitation of human beings and the rest of nature. Realizing this urgency and driven by its sincere aspiration towards excellence, UPTU, at the behest of Hon’ble VC, Prof. Prem Vrat and Registrar, Shri U S Tomer, has taken a very welcome initiative in introducing ‘Human Values and Professional Ethics’ as an audit course across all its affiliated Institutions (434 in number) from the coming academic year 2009-10 to be offered in each semester for B.Tech, B.Pharma, BHMCT, BFAD, B.Arch., MCA and MBA. This will be supplemented by practical inputs like community service activities, awareness and inspirational programmes and socially relevant projects for which requisite slots have been provided in each semester. A Value Education Cell has been set up by UPTU with Prof. Ganesh Bagaria as the coordinator. A one day workshop was organised at Raj Kumar Goel Institute of Technology, Ghaziabad to orient the  chairpersons and heads of institutions under UPTU. Another such workshop was organised at BBDNITM, Lucknow, on May 13.

Inaugurating the workshop, Prof. Prem Vrat said that the course on education without values is going to create more problems than solutions to the society and nature at large. Now it is not only needed but urgent to include courses on human values in courses in higher education. Prof. Rajeev Sangal, Director, IIIT Hyderabad, shared the experiences in experiments on value education being conducted for the last five years at his institute. Chairman, RKGIT, Shri Dinesh Kumar Goel, welcomed all the participants and motivated them.

In session I, an overview of the proposed course was thoroughly discussed by Prof. A K Sharma, Deptt. of Humanities, IIT Kanpur, Prof. R  R Gaur, IIT Delhi and Prof. G P Bagaria, HBTI Kanpur where the need, basic guidelines, content and process of value education was elaborated. It was proposed that any course of value education is a process of self-exploration and self-investigation for the students, where the student starts exploring his natural acceptance in all dimensions of living. In absence of such process, the student just gets equipped with skills to earn money, without ever being able to understand his needs and his right participation in the development of mankind.

In session II ,Prof. Rajeev Sangal, chairperson, Prof. R R Gaur, Shri U S Tomer, Prof. G.P.Bagaria, Prof. Sanjay Goel, Head, Computer Science Deptt. at JP Institute an Prof. Veena Sangal from IIIT Delhi, Shri Anurag Sahay  and Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh spoke on the challenges and responsibilities involved in the implementation. The participants cleared their doubts about the implementation of the course during the session.

The occasion was graced by the presence of eminent dignitaries from UPTU ,Lucknow and all the chairpersons, Director and Principals of Meerut, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Gautam Budh Nagar, Muzaffar Nagar ,Bijnor, Saharanpur, Bulandsahar ,Hathras, Agra ,Mathura etc. Vote of thanks for the workshop was given by Prof. B K Gupta, advisor to RKG group of Institutions.
